President's Note

Ram and I founded India Artist Management in September 1998. Ram is from Tamil Nadu and I am American. We are both karnatic music lovers. We've been married for ten years and we're raising two children in the eastern U.S.

We originally envisioned India Artist Management as a vehicle for launching the great south Indian performing artists into the U.S./Canada marketplace. We wanted our musicians and dancers to enjoy the same prestige in the western marketplace as north India musicians have since Ravi Shankar popularized Hindustani music in the 60's. This meant having top performing artists and top-quality publicity materials.

We decided to offer only the most refined, gift quality products, and to use the profit on sales to cover costs of the press kits, tour posters, radio/TV commercials, demo CD's, trade show displays and other expenses of representing the artists on our roster.

The CDs in our shop have been recorded with the highest engineering standards. The books and other products have been reviewed by us and deemed of excellent quality by respected critics. All our products are positioned to appeal those with a special interest in India, and more particularly - south India.

For our kids, our goal was to create a product line that can compete with the commercialized products of the west to hold our children's interest. We want to remove the superficial barriers such as poor packaging, British or "Indian" English, etc. that can prevent our children from understanding and appreciating the really great things about Indian culture (their culture!) Therefore we seek products from children that integrate Indian culture with American culture in new and positive ways.

We welcome your comments and suggestions - especially if you have discovered something you would like to share with others - and thank you for your support.

- Ram Sethuraman and Lori Jarrett
